Job Title: Trainer, Assistive Technology
Term: Full-time, permanent
Location: Toronto, ON
Pay Rate: $21.57
Summary:
Provides training of high technology and assistive devices to VLRC clients.
Essential Duties entail (but not limited to):
- Provides demonstrations, training, follow-up support and information on high technology devices to individuals who are experiencing difficulties as a result of loss of vision.
- Assists individuals to maintain, upgrade and configure personal computer systems.
- Participates as a member of a multi-disciplinary team.
- Completes documentation of training assessments, sessions and lesson plans.
- Assist with the presentations in VLRC planned public awareness, advocacy and educational activities.
- Researches and evaluates training methods and learning strategies.
- Maintains client tracking system and service data.
- Researches, evaluates and develops the use of high technology and maintains current files.
- Documents client's progress and equipment concerns.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications: (Education, Training, Experience):
- Community College Diploma in computer studies, or equivalent.
- Experience teaching individuals with vision loss.
- Experience in teaching screen reading or screen magnification software.(Zoomtext, JAWS, Kurweil and other)
- A solid understanding of assistive technology devices for individuals with vision loss or combined loss of hearing and sight.
- Knowledge of Word, Excel, and a willingness to learn other software programs as required.
- Proven ability to facilitate and instruct individuals.
- Proficient knowledge of computer applications and technological resources.
- Possess strong interpersonal and communication skills both oral and written.
- Demonstrates mature and sensitive nature, as well as possess emotional and social stability when dealing with the needs of persons experiencing vision loss.
- Must be organized, self motivated, flexible and adaptable.
- Willingness to work flexible hours if required.
- Travel throughout the Toronto and GTA area required.
